Extending sewer service to the east side of Stirling Basin: After years of talk about providing sewer lines to Sandy Beach and the two large marina facilities along Manhanset Ave., contracts are being drawn up to commit the marinas to their contribution of funds, for Sandy Beach residents (24 of 28) to willingly kick in $15K each, and an Empire State Dev. grant will be sought. A current cost estimate will be prepared to determine the shortfall. This public-private partnership is both good government and good for the Bay’s water quality.

Southold police handle Greenport’s problems: Each NY municipality was to come up with community influenced recommendations in response to the national Black Lives Matter movement. Southold’s Taskforce created a report that was modified by the Town Board and the Supervisor submitted this to Albany by the deadline:

Village meetings: Check the gov website to see if a meeting will be in person, online or perhaps both.

It remains unclear if all emailed and mailed comments will be read into the record as previously recommended.

Information sharing expands knowledge and leads to better decision making. The Village benefits from Let’s Talk About Greenport’s Facebook page. Mary Bess has a unique ability to inspire high level discourse however controversial issues may be censored. Facebook intimidates some with its easy negative responses that are certainly prevalent at other sites. The Suffolk Times and Patch offer other ways to stay informed and initiate dialogue.

This site welcomes contributions, especially essays with background, context and facts. We can also put you together with others having similar concerns. We have a hard working Village Board. They each volunteer long hours keeping things functioning, protecting what we love and improving what needs change. We citizens have a role to play also so stop by here and decide what inspires or concerns you–then pitch in, either here with an article or at public hearings, by phone and email to our government officials.
